Troop 507 Boy Scout Summer Camp's Experience

At

Camp Ransburg, Bloomington, IN

At summer camp we did many things. The food was good but the dining hall was very crowded. We had pizza on Wednesday night right in our campsite and we also had great brownies which Mrs. Cantanese was nice enough to bring. It was very hot and unfortunately there were many ridges we had to walk up and down all day long to get to our different merit badges. There were many geodes and fossils at one of the beaches and many of us collected both. The camp had no mosquitoes. That was weird!

Many new scouts took Swimming merit badge. Some second year scouts took Lifesaving. Many third year scouts took Environmental Science. The camp even had a stable for the Horsemanship merit badge. Scouts also took the handicraft merit badges because they did not take very long to complete.

Scouts got candy and soda at the trading post. We played cards a lot during our spare time. At the camp someone caught a turtle and we put it in the nature center in the turtle bin. We saw a skink on someone’s tent one day. I caught a red belly snake which the nature center did not have and were glad to have added to their collection. Some work on merit badges had to be done during spare time.

We had two big campfires for the whole camp and several in our own campsite. Two people won big awards at the ending ceremony/campfire, Will S. for best shotgun shooting and Kelvin R. for the most service hours logged. As you can see many badges were earned at camp. Other then badges, younger scouts worked on and got rank advancements. Camp this year was a very fun experience.
