The Troop has
several volunteer positions. Please show your support by volunteering
for the benefit of our great group of scouts. It is best to volunteer before
a position is vacated, in order to learn from the incumbent and ensure a
smooth and orderly transition.
* Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters
- serve as uniformed leaders who help implement the scouting program. The
District and Council conduct training classes that help you fill this role.
And remember, women serve as scoutmasters and assistant scoutmasters, too!
You can do this even if your schedule doesn't allow you to attend every
meeting.
* Outdoor Events Coordinator -
makes sure that facilities are available for the troop's outdoor activities.
Makes camp reservations, deposits on facilities, etc. This is a critically
important job, since we don't want the troop to arrive at their campsite,
only to find that they are not expected!
* Summer Camp Coordinator and Deputy
- The Summer Camp Coordinator is responsible for planning the troop's annual
summer camp. This is for most scouts the peak outdoor experience of the year.
The Summer Camp Coordinator makes the troop’s reservations, collects all
forms and deposits, and handles any pre-registration for advancement
opportunities. * Pancake
Breakfast Chairperson and Deputy - The Pancake Breakfast
held every year in May is Troop 507's primary means of funding its activities,
and all families in the troop are required to help out at the Pancake
Breakfast. Its success is critical to the troop's ability to provide a
scouting program. The chairperson is responsible for planning and
coordinating the pancake breakfast.
* Awards Night Coordinator -
works with the boys to prepare the Court of Honor ceremonies four times a
year.
* Merit Badge Counselors - Most
adults have a number of areas of expertise, and the odds are that there is a
merit badge for most of those areas.
* Drivers for campouts - many of
the monthly campouts are short of drivers.
* Trailer Haulers - We need more
people who can tow the troop trailer on campouts. If you have a vehicle that
is up to towing, and you have some experience pulling a trailer, we need you.
* Troop Guide Supervisors - an
Assistant Scoutmaster overseeing and working with our Dino Patrols and
supervising the older scouts assigned as guides to the Dino Patrols
* Meetings Supervisors - an
Assistant Scoutmaster aiding the Scoutmaster in running our weekly meetings.
* Outings Supervisors - an
Assistant Scoutmaster aiding the Scoutmaster in running our monthly outings
and summer camp.
* Religious Coordinator -
Organizes the Scout Mass held in February.
* Sewing Instructors - Yes,
that's right! We would like to conduct a Sewing Clinic to teach scouts how to
sew on their badges. (And their moms will thank you!)
Please consider your
current level of involvement in the Troop and whether you can pitch in and
help with one of these positions. The boys will appreciate your
participation, and the opportunities are both challenging and rewarding.
Please contact
the Chairman to volunteer or obtain further
information. Information can also be found in the Troop & Crew Guide.
